The Work Behind the Books

It started as a daily habit.

Several years ago I decided to devote time every day to writing about Scripture. Not for a publisher. Not on a deadline. Just sustained attention to the Bible on paper, day after day.

Over time the daily notes started gathering into themes. Patterns formed. The thinking wanted to be organized. The organization became books.

As the books took shape, I decided to focus each one on a single subject I had wrestled with at length, and to write in plain language so any reader who picks it up can understand it and put it to work in his own life. The goal is not to impress. The goal is to be useful.

Twenty years in three vocations.

I'm a gospel preacher, a missionary across four continents, and the author of a growing shelf of books. My wife Kelly and I were married in 2004 and make our home outside Memphis. Our two grown children are walking with the Lord.

The Manna Project, the nonprofit I founded in 2010, trains and equips brethren for gospel preaching and church planting around the world. The books, the preaching, and the mission work are not three jobs. They are the work of the Lord expressed in three forms.

If you have struggled with persistent temptation and want to understand the mechanics of how it works, start with Drawn Away.
